  7. What a lovely piece this was to watch. What a lovely cast and crew. Bravo to Peter Jackson and to everyone who worked so hard. As a huge LOTR fan (savored every moment)I know that the quality of the Hobbit will be top rate. Can’t wait to see old favorites like Sir Ian and Cate, and Orlando. And I adore Martin Freeman – such a talented guy. So much to look forward to!

  8. I have been following the production blogs since the beginning, and I have even been waiting for The Hobbit to be made since the moment there were rumors of it so many years ago. I can’t even express how excited I am for this film! It may be silly for a film to bring so much joy to a person, but this franchise really has made me feel so inspired. Beautiful storytelling, beautiful imagery, inspiring acting, everything. Thank you so much Peter Jackson and all the crew working on this film!

I must thank all the people involved in the production of the lord of the rings and the hobbit for bringing us, tolkien fans, these great adaptations. We really feel Middle-earth in the movies, its crazy how you make it so real. A special thank you to Peter Jackson, the man who made this possible, Weta Workshops for the incredible work with the clothes, weapons and special effects, and to Ian Mckellen and Andy Serkis for their incredible roles as Gandalf and Gollum. No one would be able to do it better than you!

    Marcus πŸ˜‰ (KIWI)

  40. Our lives can be so difficult, and many of us struggle with loss, illness, and pain. But these beautifully imaginative stories help us escape and inspire us to push on. Everyone involved in creating these superbly crafted films should be commended. The value of such an endeavor in these challenging times can not be overstated, and the production videos add to the cheerful anticipation! Great thanks to you all!

  41. Shaun Daly says:

Thanks very much for the videos PJ!

Ignore the nasty comments from the mean spirited little worms.

The MORE production vidos you can supply us with, the better!

  42. NORI dori says:

Wait did Peter say “save for future blogs”? @ 3:05

    • smeagol_deagol says:

Probably future blogs refer to remaining parts of the entire production, however I’d love to see some of this documentary footage before December 2012!!!

  43. Marigold Cotton says:

You do realize that you’ll have to make The Similarion into a movie after this, right, PJ? πŸ˜€

  44. Wow !

    Thanks for this awesome video..

  45. Erica S. says:

I got entirely too emotional watching this…I can only imagine how incredible it must have been to be a part of something this amazing. I hold everyone involved in this project in the highest regard – you people are amazing! I can’t tell you how much these blogs have been appreciated, and can’t wait for more from post-production! Middle Earth, whether in book or movie form, has meant so much to me, and I’ve always regretted being too young to see the first LOTR movies in theaters. The anticipation of getting to see PJ’s newest masterpiece on the big screen is too much, and December can’t come soon enough!

  46. I would like to send a huge THANK YOU out to “The Hobbit Team” for keeping us in the loop with these blogs over the last year! I have waited for each new one with eager anticipation. One of the greatest parts about them has been hearing Howard Shore’s music overlaid. It gave me goosebumps on the first one. I think one of my favorite moments in these blogs was seeing the five helicopters flying to location scouting.

Congratulations to you all on completing the film shoot, we appreciate all of your hard work!

  47. Jillianr says:

    Wonderful to see!

  48. Tears came to my eyes and my jaw also dropped when I saw a buch of dwarves marching to battle!!!
Everything is so wonderful in this movie almost the same way I imagined, cause it’s better, when I read the book many years ago.
Goodness I can’t wait!! Thank you for filming this story Peter!
    complimenti, bravo!

  49. Such a good energy on set.

Thanks Peter! You’re such an extraordinary person and a amazing director.

  50. Thank you for all, this video is really nice! This movie will be on of the best ever…

  51. Greetings Mr Jackson,

266 days, what a journey! Watching this is so magical, because it touches something in my heart, a feeling of deep friendship, and this I think is the true essence of Tolkiens books. I can see this in the face of every person involved in this movie and it just makes me smile.

  52. NORI dori says:

    Wow Wow Wow! πŸ˜€

  53. NORI dori says:

Has anyone heard that Peter is thinking about making”The Hobbit” into a trilogy

    • Yes, they may go back on the stage to capture some additionnal scene with the agreement of producers, but I don’t think it will involve a third movie: it will make only bonus for DVDs and long version of the movie.

  54. Kathleen Gilligan-Smith says:

To Peter, Andy, the entire cast & crew….. you made me cry…… I can not find appropriate words to express the warmth in my heart for all of you…. that you took the time to offer me and the others like me-those that could not possibly attend any of these moments, these behind the scenes blessings into your special lives and your movie magic!

I have been watching movies a long time now – over 50 years…and I can not recall another group of people so worthy of the fans…. you all are so giving to us – so loving and true to our beloved characters…….. you have blessed me with these video blogs… by including me into a world that otherwise…I would never be able to see. I only wish I could express it better….. how much it ment to me. I am so excited to see this next wonderment from all you gifted and loving people……looking forward to December!!! ;D Thanks sooooooo much – and love and peace to you all!!! <3 <3 <3 Kathleen

A big thank you to all the cast and crew and to Peter Jackson, for making fans feel like they’ve been a part of creating these wonderful films.

“One stage of your journey is over. Another begins.”
    – Gandalf the White, The Two Towers.

  70. Well done to Peter, the cast and crew. Was there any doubt that this movie was going to be amazing!

  71. Thanks P.J. I really appreciate all the effort and work that you put on this blog while handing all the filming. It’s awesome to see how you and you’re crew handle all challenges while making a epic movie such as The Hobbit.I hope you will continue to add some new stills from the movie this last ones were fantastic
    Keep whit terrific work
    All the best

  72. I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But what was the creature in 1:20?

    • That, my friend, would be a Stone Giant. If you ever saw the movie, “The Never Ending Story.” I always thought Tolkien’s Stone Giants inspired the Rockbiter in that movie.

  73. so great to see some of Beorn’s home, Radagast’s house, the town of Dale and the pile of intestines in the Goblin’s lair

  74. Ethelien says:

great movie , great people, great director , great story thank you for this all Peter and good luck to second part of the Hobbit. πŸ™‚

  75. I just read that it’s going to be 3 movies now, does that mean we will get some more Production videos? :3

  76. LockHood says:

I wholeheartedly agree it should be a Trilogy . Only true Tolkien fans would understand all the material in the Appendices and The Unfinished Tales and other works need to be told too . Please don’t let criticisms from Tolkien-illiterates about ‘draggin on a single book ‘ hinder you . Make as many movies as it takes to tell the complete story πŸ˜€

  77. Please, please consider The Legend of Drizzt on your future films. Amazing adventure and only Peter Jackson could do this justice.

  78. Oh so many chills. Thank you so much for the updates and for your dedication to and love for Tolkien’s work. I can’t wait to see the final product!

  79. Tiago de Lima Castro says:

    Dear Perter Jackson,

I would like to tell thank you for the the trilogy “The Lord of The Rings”. Your work with Tolkien’s books were very important for us.
But now, you will make us more happy, because the Hobbit, that I think that will be marvelous like the “The Lord of the Rings” was.
I think that you don’t work just like someone that have to make good films, in my opinion, you work with love for all that means the Tolkien’s work, and is this that we need!
Thank you very much for you and all the incredible team, not just the actors, but all the people involved, that worked with you all that time, and that people that are working with you now!

Thank you Peter Jackon and thank you all incredible people in this work!

    Tiago de Lima Castro

  81. Forerunners says:

    Fantastic. thank you.

Any chance of re-visioning the Wrags for their appearance in the Hobbit, during post production?
(assuming a revisit of the Wrag scene in LOTR Two Towers could also then follow?)

  82. Flibberdy Gibbet says:

OMGOMGOMG Aweeeesome….I’m so thrilled I can’t see straight! THREE MORE MOVIES !! God I hope he takes on the Silmaril next… what a legacy this all will make to movie making, to story telling, to literature! I love how movies are now being shot in GROUPS rather than one-hour bereft of detail lumps. THANK YOU JRR AND PETER!

  83. LOVEYOUGUYS says:

Would any of you dwarves consent to becoming my son’s godfather?

  84. Silvia from Argentina says:

Oh, please, I ended up crying after watching production video #8, what will you do to my emotions when the film is finally ready? I can’t wait! But most of all, thank you for making us all part of this amazing journey.

  85. Kevin McGreevy from Basque Country says:

Greetings from the Basque Country ^^

  86. Thank you, as always, making our dreams and wishes come true. An entire world brought to us in a few movie hours. An incredible and unique job! Congratulations! I didn’t know that could exist something greater than perfect but now I know it does! First The Lord of the Rings and now The Hobbit… It would be great to see The Silmarillon, too. Thanks once again!

    Good luck from Spain!

  87. These Vlogs are just brilliant. Everyone always seems to be having such a wonderful time, I really am envious

  88. PETER JACKSON YOU ARE THE BEST WE LOVE YOU :S Without you and Tolkien there wouldn’t exist my favourite movie

  89. Hey its an awesome video I liked it.

  90. Thank you so much Peter Jackson and camera men for taking time to make these beautiful production videos for everyone. It’s truly remarkable to see how grand this movie will be and I’m so happy that fans are able to see tidbits of the behind the scenes before the movie release. I greatly loved Lord of the Rings and am equally excited for the Hobbit trilogy!

  91. Dear Peter, Andy and the cast and crew,
When I watched ‘The Lord of The Rings’, I realized I wanted to be a film maker. I was 13, and my greatest sadness was, that I was not old enough or experienced enough to be a part of your crew.
10 years later, I’ve only just set foot into the Indian film industry as a ‘Production assistant’, and here you announce that your making ‘The Hobbit’, another of middle earths great epics.
I was heart broken, simply because I am no nearer to being a part of your crew, as I was 10 years ago.
But thanks to your video blogs. You have given me and so many others, a taste of what it would have been like to work with you these ‘History Makers’ of films.
This is a long shot I know, But I must petition, for if there is any opening on the crews working on the second and third ‘Hobbit Movie’, I beg of you to consider me. I am more than capable, I am insanely passion driven, and it truly would be the ultimate dream come true, for I am your biggest fan and I’ve read all of Tolken’s work.

Anyone seen the updated trailer? NEW FOOTAGE!!!!!!!!!!! We see smatterings of new footage sprinkled into the original release, with the trailer’s narrative arc still focusing on Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and the Dwarves as Bilbo searches for lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. There’s also some great scenes of the beauty of Middle-Earth.

New footage has Bilbo at Bag End, a hobbit tucked behind a tree and some running through the woods. See it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpdYKhv3EK0&feature=player_embedded

  107. Matthew the Wayfarer says:

4 months to go and still no new Teasers or Trailers for the movie. What are they waiting on? Other big movies coming up already have them. Very disappointing.

  108. confedangel says:

  109. I would grab a tree, hold on for dear life whilst screaming ‘I’M NOT LEAVING!!’ I can only imagine how terribly difficult it is to say goodbye to such an amazing experience. And I can only hope that one day I won’t be just imagining it. πŸ™‚
    Love from the Netherlands.

  110. I must say that I’ve never really actually been waiting for a movie before. It’s a weird feeling.

    Thank you.

  111. A friend told me that they are having to digitally clean up all the Makeups for this movie as the definition is so good that you can see all the edges on the prosthetics. In some cases they are having to totally cg over them because they are so bad. Shame.

  112. Renata Peek says:

  117. This has been such a treat. As a 72 year old lady, I am hoping you don’t wait too long to release each film. I am hoping I last to see them all. With much love.

  118. Um…does anyone else take issue with the promise that we’ll see what the people in Hall H at Comic-Con saw of The Hobbit? True, this video is footage of the panel…but NOT of the film.

C’mon, people. Not all of us can afford to go to Comic-Con. Besides, that was in what, July? Get real and post the 12 minutes of footage.

  119. :’) felt shivers running trough my spine, the Lord of The Rings Saga changed my life since the very first movie and im pretty sure this movies will too!, Ty Peter jackson!

  120. Hello, Peter.

I wonder if you already know about this suggestion. But the really awesome idea has come to me. So I’ve decided to share with you immediately.

What do you think about to re-master the original The Lord of the Ring Trilogy to IMAX-3D format. I know this sounds like a huge challenge. But we have a vivid example of big success. I mean James Cameron and his Titanic 3D. He spent only $18 million to produce and the reissue has earned $342 million.

But money means nothing :). Can you just imagine how great re-release will be? After 10 years the original movie still looks amazing… but in IMAX 3D it will be spectacular. This will be an awesome gift for all fans and for people who didn’t have the chance to see the Trilogy in cinema. And it fits great right after The Hobbit’s last part release. Just give us a shadow of hope πŸ˜‰ I can wait long for this.

    Thank you.

  121. To Peter, the entire Weta crew, all the pre & post production staff…. & the cast,

We will be waiting with baited breath. Your wonderful movies have brought my family endless joy and wonderment. And personally as a fan of Tolkin’s novels it touches out hearts that you go to such great lengths to accurately portray his writings in such detail.

Thank you for all your handwork and dedication. What you do is truly art.

The Lord of the Rings are the best movies ever, I just watched all three extended editions in a row last night! I’m sure everyone feels the same excitement I do for this, but I think about the Hobbit movie day and night! Peter Jackson, the world will forever be in your debt for doing this. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for deciding to make more J.R.R. Tolkien movies, you’re awesome! Oh, and thanks for bringing back some of the LOTR characters in the Hobbit. Even though some of them aren’t in the books, it will still be exciting for us to see them again! good choice! I’m still counting down the days till the first movie comes out…only 96 more!!! It can’t come fast enough…so keep updating us!!!

each blog video really cut to the heart and swirled imagination inside my soul. I got teary eyed from the last one. I can’t imagine how Peter felt before saying “if no one has anything else they want to shoot, let’s call it a day.” you could hear/see the hesitation.

  125. Crystal Proudfeet says:

I love these production videos! It reminds of the hours of the wonderful behind the scenes footage I watched on the extended versions of the LoTR DVDs. So many memories and countless tears; I look forward to experiencing fond moments with The Hobbit =D Thanks to the director, crew, actors, EVERYONE from the best boy to the set design team who put in their time and love into this film!

  126. Much like other The Lord of the Rings fans I cannot wait to see the first The Hobbit movie when it finally comes out in December. Now that Peter Jackson has divided the story into three separate movies, I wonder how we will decided to break up the climax of the story.
