THE HOBBIT THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG LIVE FAN EVENT

  1. Micah Wade says:

Will Strider (Viggo Mortensen) appear in the Hobbit Trilogy? I know he himself has denied it, but I’m not convinced. Will the story of how Arogorn and Gandalf pursued Gullom be told (maybe in There and Back Again)?

    Thanks!

    • Van Velzen says:

Aragorn does NOT actually appear in The Hobbit book and has absolutely no connection to it whatsoever. For that reason (among others) I think Peter Jackson will not bring Viggo Mortensen or Aragorn in The Hobbit Movie Trilogy. And rightfully so, because Aragorn has no place in this tale.

      • Uri Breitman says:

Legolas is also NOT included in the original Hobbit book, but he’s heavilty featured in Part II. But I agree that adding Aragorn here is just too much.

  2. Luke Skywalker says:

But I’m going to be in school :(

  3. Klaus Baumgarten says:

Even though I like Peter Jackson’s work and hav cherished LOTR both as film and book ever since, if we look at both trailers and the way pictures and events like this one here are advertised you must get the impression that minor, if not “invented” characters like Legolas and Tauriel are as important, if not more important than the character of the hobbit himself, which would be a shame. I think the makers of these films should not have made concessions to the profit-only oriented studios in Hollywood. th studios would have bought it anyway because they know they will get rich with anything Jackson makes. Including Legolas and even a hint at some kind of love interest here clearly is one of these concessions. It is totally unnecessary for the development of the story, it is a filler that clearly aims at making the most at the box ofice. Statistics may prove that Bilbo has not been portrayed longer in the trailers than Legolas and Tauriel and the Elven King. The same is true for the first movie, attention is often drawn towards other characters more than it was from Frodo in LOTR. Thus the central theme sometimes gets lost, different from LOTR where the main theme, Frodo’s errant, was always present and all th other strands referred to it. I fear that the third movie will even more drift away from what the book is actually about, the unlikeley, yet exciting journey of a little man who finds out who he really is and what he is capable of, something we can all relate to. the more the movie moves away from this theme, the less people can identify like they could in LOTR, which consequently makes the Hobbit a less convioncing and interesting movie. Sorry, but I know lots of people who think the same way. I still hope the movie will prove me wrong.

    • David Herrera says:

man, it’s an adaptation, it not pretend to be the book illustrated, Sir Peter Jackson is doing something wonderful, it’s bringing the middle-earth to the hobbit, in the form of material that was only in the appendixes of the lord of the ring, material that can bring important information to the table, and give more life, colour and realism to the entire franchise, so it’s quite obvious that some characters are going to be changed, and of course, this is not the Tolkien’s baby, it’s Peter’s Baby, lets give him some space so he can work and deliver the best movie he can elaborate, and if he’s the same man that we know, it will be stupendous

      • Klaus Baumgarten says:

man, why are you all being so uncritical? Why scream like your life depended on it:-) These are great movies, but we are not talking about perfect things or perfect people. Including Tauriel is actually of the same quality as including Aragorn – which will not happen, at least not in film two. It is no contradiction to love something on the whole and still be critical about details or certain more important aspects. On the contrary, only with works of art that have a certain quality it will be worth being critical. What I am saying is: had it been no more than two films like it was planned at the beginning, the inclusion of someone like Tauriel and other “material” would not have been necessary and the two films would have concentrated more on what the book is about at heart. Still I am sure I will be entertained by what he will make of it.

  12. Katharyne Goshulak says:

Thank you, Mr. Jackson for this second instalment of “The Hobbit”. It is really superb. I read the book years ago; watched your first Lord of the Rings trilogy and yet this of all the 5 films is really my favourite. You captured the magic of Tolkien; moved scenarios smoothly, with palate (I am a cook!); and liquified the transitions between different groups/individuals from the book to the film. I am grateful that I can express my appreciation for mastery in film.

Thank you again for this lovely chance to watch your film.
